A “shocking level of violence” against teachers is a factor that has spurred a company into undertaking a major research programme into schools security.
Following research last year, integrated security specialist TAC is carrying out its second major project on the state of security in Britain’s schools.
Says strategic solutions director Richard Strode: “What we found was a shocking level of violence against teachers which is simply not factored for in school security strategies.
“We are now undertaking this second piece of research so that we can fully understand the concerns of parents and guardians.”
In its research in 2007, TAC – which also specialises in building automation - investigated the type of security concerns faced by teachers.
Strode says the new research will “help create a more complete understanding of the challenges facing schools and therefore help the industry identify the best security solutions to make them safer for both staff and pupils”.
Many schools did not have the expertise to know how to make their ideals become a reality, said Strode.
“That is a responsibility which lies with the security industry.”
The TAC School Security Report – A Parents View will be launched in Spring 2009 along with a series of recommendations for the security industry to help make educational environments safer.
Research will be conducted by Perpetuity Research – a spin off of the University of Leicester.
